Synopsis:

Long, long ago there was a war between the King and his parliament. The parliament won the war and the King lost his head. Power fell to the hands of an austere puritan named Cromwell, who despising all revelry and jollity as frivolous and ungodly, determined to abolish the great festival of Christmas. So it was, that he sent agents out into the villages and countryside, to stamp out Christmas where ever it was celebrated. One such agent was Nicholas/Nichole Grimnasty, the witch finder general, who was foolish enough to try to stop the Christmas party in the village inhabited by Dame Dumplings, her niece Emma Sweetly and the Christmas Cavalier, Sir Daniel Dash .......

It is a very funny script, all the characters fit into the framework of a traditional pantomime.

The list of characters:

Grimnasty ‑   The archetypal pantomime villain. He is cruel, overbearing and unpleasant. Melodramatic and loud. Played by Pat Miles

Smallpiece ‑  Grimnasty's sidekick. Sneaky and mean spirited, he goes in terror of his master and takes it out on everybody else. Played by Tony Slater

Dame Dumpling ‑ Overweight, coarse, loud and objectionable but also colourful and funny. Played by Mark Long.

Emma Sweetly ‑ Principal girl. Pretty, kind and loving. An evil side comes out when she is put under a spell. Played by Amber Carrier.

Daniel Dash ‑ The Christmas Cavalier. He is very straight and serious, bold and gallant with no sense of humour.

Nathaniel and Obadiah Stupid ‑ Comedy duo. Unwilling henchman of Grimnasty. Both idiots. Would like them contrasting ie shod, fat, tall, skinny.

Peta Farthing ‑ Earthy, peddler. Pivitol to the plot. Looking for his bottom (Bear) throughout the script. Leads Audience participation.

The Three witches ‑ Witty, wise and critical. Played by Mary Maurer, Rachel Perks and Tania Slater.

Village Children‑ Chorus. Naughtiest, rudest and excitable children. Adults dressed as children.

Bottom ‑ The dancing Bear

Santa Claus

Our thanks to photographer Sue Marris and the Geraldton Guardian for these brilliant photos. T8's usual photographer was too busy slacking off in Tasmania!

(Hmm, that pink dress on Mark Long looks a bit familiar! Clearly needed more padding than the previous occupant!.....Web ed)
