RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET
RTTFP was a fun musical homage to old Science Fiction B Movies and the movie The Forbidden Planet, itself based on Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. For this we were required to build a spaceship with tongue firmly in cheek and 'B-Movie' very much in mind.
This is a picture of the scale model that was constructed to help plan out the stage before committing ourselves to a major build. The set took a month utilising scaffolding for the circular deck. Apart from the Flats used to construct the rear spaceship wall, all the other elements had to be made from scratch. The ramp to Stage Left was eventually discarded in the final set.
Now
you can see the finished product. This picture was taken in rehearsal.
Once completed laser lights and other lighting effects gave life to the feel and
look of the set. This was also the first time a live band was used on
stage! The set builder is stood Stage Right on the circular deck dressed
as the ships cook.....
Costumes
The costumes that were designed for the production were accurately reflected in the final product, as can be seen in part in the above production photo.
